Electrical Design Engineer

Qualifications & experience
- Bachelor of Electrical Engineering
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, standards, and regulatory requirements
- 3-5 years of experience in an engineering role within industrial sectors
- Demonstrated experience in a similar role, preferably in consulting or a related industry.
- Understand electrical wiring and panel building based on ELV and LV designs.
- Proven ability to work independently, prioritising and delivering complex tasks with competing demands
- Familiarity with project management principles and practices
- Have strong organisational and interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form
- Chartered Engineer – CPEng or equivalent
- Knowledge and proficient use of AutoCAD, MS Office, (Excel, Word, Project)
- Extensive knowledge of standards for electrical practice areas (AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 3008)
- Experience in Hazardous Areas (AS/NZS 60079.14).
- Experience in Functional Safety and related applications
- PLC/SCADA system design and development
- Industrial communications, network design, and development
- Experience with Rockwell, Siemens, or Schneider platforms
- Client focused with strong communication skills
- Experience in Hazard Identification, Risk Management and application of Safety in Design including practices such as HAZID, HAZOP and CHAZOP.
Tasks & responsibilities
- Create electrical schematics, diagrams, and drawings for electrical systems and equipment.
- Design electrical systems and components for new projects or improvement of existing ones.
- Select and specify electrical components, materials, and equipment.
- Collaborate with other engineers and technical staff to determine project requirements and design specifications.
- Perform electrical load calculations, short-circuit analysis, and coordination studies.
- Verify that designs comply with industry standards, codes, and regulations.
- Provide technical support during installation, commissioning, and maintenance of electrical systems.
- Develop and maintain project documentation, such as bills of materials, test procedures, and project reports.
- Review and approve subcontractor and vendor submittals.
- Communicate with clients and contractors to resolve design and technical issues.
